Ligue 1 McDonald's Matchday 7
Match report
A point to keep moving forward (0-0)
Nice and Brest ended the Matchday 7 of Ligue 1 with a goalless draw (0-0).
In a sold-out stadium celebrating the 10th anniversary of Allianz Riviera, Nice and Brest shared the points (0-0). Les Aiglons had opportunities, including Boga's volley that hit the crossbar in the first half, but lacked precision with their final touch.
Francesco Farioli's team therefore continues its unbeaten run with 7 matches without a defeat in Ligue 1 (4 draws, 3 wins) and sits in 4th place in the league table with 13 points.
At kick-off, Youcef Atal and Jérémie Boga, who scored the late winner in the derby against Monaco, returned to the Nice starting eleven. Bulka, Atal, Todibo, Dante (captain), Bard, Sanson, Ndayishimiye, Thuram, Laborde, Moffi, and Boga began the game in a 4-3-3 formation.
Quickly, Nice showed their attacking intentions by setting themselves up in Brest's half. Nice dominated but came close to conceding an early goal when a dangerous shot from Le Douaron hit the outside of Bulka's left post (8'). Confident in their own ability, Les Aiglons did not back down and continued to deliver crosses. Laborde tried his luck from distance, but his effort was off target (15').
BOGA HITS THE CROSSBAR
Three minutes later, a very lively Jérémie Boga, sent shivers through Allianz Riviera. From a good cross in from Atal on the right, his volley from close-range crashed against the crossbar. The ball then fell to Laborde. Le Gym's forward attempted a half-volley in the box, but Bizot pushed the ball away (18').
Full of confidence in a packed stadium, Les Aiglons created chances, but neither Thuram's dangerous shots (28', 29'), Boga's effort (29'), nor Ndayishimiye's header (45+3') allowed them to break the deadlock. A solid Le Gym but who had lacked precision therefore went in at half-time at 0-0.
After the break, Les Azuréens returned to the pitch with the same attacking ideas as in the first half against this well-organized Brest side. But as the minutes passed, Eric Roy's team gained confidence and pushed Les Rouge et Noir back. Disciplined and resilient, the best defence in Ligue 1 (4 goals conceded) didn't allow anything through.
LE GYM LACKS PRECISION
Marcin Bulka demonstrated authority by pushing Lala's free kick from the left wing away for a corner at the near post (66'). Moments earlier, Jérémie Boga also posed a threat with a free-kick on the edge of the box, but the Brest wall blocked his strike (63'). Francesco Farioli made changes in the second half as he looked to make a difference. Todibo, Sanson, Atal, Laborde, and Moffi were substituted, with Rosario, Boudaoui, Lotomba, Bouanani, and Guessand all coming on.
Le Gym continued to attempt their crosses to unlock the opponent's defence, such as Bard's from the left, but it was stopped by Bizot (71'). Bulka once again stood out with a great save to deny Doumbia (81').
The end of the match resembled a game of chess, with each team strategically positioning their pieces. In front of their own supporters, Le Gym tried to spice up the game in the final minutes. Thuram missed an acrobatic overhead kick from a Lotomba cross, Guessand won the ball back and took a shot on the turn, but it went wide of the target (83'). The final real chance of the game.
Next Saturday, Le Gym will travel to Metz for their next match (Matchday 8, kick-off at 5:00 PM).
