Farioli: "A bit of regret, but..."

Here is Francesco Farioli's reaction after the draw between Le Gym and Brest (0-0).

Is it a point gained or two points lost?

Probably a bit of both. There is certainly some regret because we had some chances. We could have had a few more. On the other hand, we must not forget the week we had. We played against a team that is top of the league. A team that creates a lot. We were very good at not conceding anything. We worked a lot this week at defending against balls from out wide. We won all the duels. I think they only touched the ball in our penalty area twice, with headers. The team's defensive solidity was remarkable. A little regret, yes, but with a bit more nervous energy, a bit more quality and fluidity... It's not an excuse, because the pitch is the same for both teams, but for a team that looks to play the ball on the ground and quickly, having a pitch that makes the ball bounce from side to side influences things. I also want to emphasise, once again, the support we had from our fans. 32,000 people accompanied us throughout the match. I'm sorry we couldn't offer them the joy of victory. We will start preparing for the Metz match tomorrow with all of our energy.

After several fantastic matches, it was tougher for Terem Moffi today. Why didn't you substitute him earlier?

Once again, Terem had an important match. I would have liked to make some changes to the attacking players earlier, but we had to substitute Todibo, who had a slight calf issue, so we had to rethink our plans. It wasn't easy today to play against two central defenders who were so aggressive. We lacked a bit of fluidity, not only for Terem but also in certain choices in terms of our build-up play, within the game. To come back to the first part of the question: Terem's performance was once again positive. Now, we move forward, focused on the next match. I hope he will find the back of the net and pick up assists, as he did in the previous matches.

Why are Brest a difficult team to handle?

Because they are a team with great quality. A team that is willing to wait for you and they know that during the match, with one loose ball, a counter-attack, a set piece, they can win the game. As I said: on one hand, there's the feeling of having lost two points, but on the other hand, there's also the feeling of having gained one. In a match like this, without the necessary maturity, you risk losing it when you least expect it. They won last week against Lyon in the final minute. They are a tough team with great physical strength. They are first in the tackle, first in their aerial duels. They also have strong individual qualities, great organisation, a good mentality. We knew it was going to be a complicated match. We approached it with the same professionalism as the last two matches. So there is a bit of regret and the conviction of having maintained continuity in a challenging match.

After a challenging week, did you feel the players were disturbed?

No. Honestly, yesterday, at the end of training, I gathered them to congratulate them on the entire week. We are coming off the back of 5 extraordinary days of work, perhaps the best they have had since we've been together. The preparation was perfect. Of course, the situation we experienced in the last 48 hours, consciously or unconsciously, drained energy. I say this because I almost fainted three times on the pitch even though I didn't play. This match took a lot of mental energy from us. But I say it again: the team played with great character, great maturity. I think it made our friend Alexis proud.
