Ligue 1 McDonald's Matchday 3
Match report
Le Gym go unrewarded against Lyon (0-0)
Despite dominating and controlling the game, Les Aiglons could only manage a 0-0 draw against Lyon, their third draw in three games this season.
After frustrating draws against Lille and Lorient (1-1 on both occasions), Les Rouge et Noir were once again held to a 0-0 draw at the Allianz Riviera this evening. For the third time, Dante and his team-mates returned to the dressing room with the bitter sensation of having controlled the match without making the most of their dominance.
60% to 40% possession, 21 shots to 6... The numbers were in Nice's favour. However, they were ineffective in the final 20 metres, hitting the target just four times.
Le Gym hits hard
Francesco Farioli's men once again positioned themselves high up the pitch to hamper Lyon's defence with constant pressure, as in the case of Laborde's ball that led to Moffi's wayward shot (4'). In the first half, Le Gym tried hard, with Laborde (21'), Diop (29') and Atal (42') all going close but failing to rattle the Lyon keeper. The best move came from OL, when Rayan Cherki, their main attacking threat of the evening, set up a transitional pass. The U-21 international managed to feed Amin Sarr, but the latter lost out one-on-one with Marcin Bulka (30').
BOUANANI MAKING AN IMPACT
In the second half, Les Aiglons came back strongly, as demonstrated by Morgan Sanson's effort, which was met by Diop's subtle back-heeled cross (46'). Valiant through, Le Gym never wavered, increasing their intensity and continuing to stifle Lyon without ever looking dangerous until Badredine Bouanani came on. The Fennec made an impact offensively, finding Moffi, who shot narrowly wide from the edge of the area (71'), before putting Tagliafico to the sword late on. The latter deflected in a cross from Gym's number 22 with his shin and then his hand (86').
Earlier, Dante had sent a thrill through the Allianz Riviera when he tried his luck from thirty yards. But, as was the case for his team-mates, success eluded the Aiglons' captain, who will be looking for his first win of the season next week, once again at home, this time facing Strasbourg (03/09, 17:05).
