Bienvenue Jonathan Clauss

Jonathan Clauss is an OGC Nice player! The France international (13 caps, 2 goals) has signed from Marseille and is officially tied to Le Gym until June 2026.

After Tanguy Ndombele, here is the second signing of the Rouge et Noir summer. And it’s another experienced, high-profile signing. Jonathan Clauss (31yrs), is a well-known figure in Ligue 1, and he will now be playing in the Gym’s colours. A member of the France national team at the recent Euros, the right-sided midfielder arrived in Nice on Thursday and, after passing the traditional medical, signed his contract. “It's important for us to be able to count on experienced players,” explained Le Gym sporting director Florian Maurice. “Jonathan has been at the highest level for a number of seasons now and is an experienced international. He also has the advantage of knowing Franck Haise, his staff and the system we want to play. We think this will make it easier for him to adapt and perform quickly.

“It's true that the chance to work again with coach Haise was a big factor in my decision,” said the player himself. The two men worked together at Lens, where Clauss played between 2020 and 2022. In the north of France, where he signed from Armenia Bielefeld, the player established himself in the French top flight, twice being named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year (in 2021 and 2022) and becoming an international with Les Bleus. He continued: "I was also convinced by the project presented by Le Gym and by the confidence they have in me. I'm coming to an important moment in my career. I need to keep improving, to continue playing in European competition and to play in the right environment. I'm ambitious, like OGC Nice. All the ingredients are here and I can't wait to get to know the rest of the squad.”

Jonathan Clauss is a speedy midfielder with the ability to play on both flanks, and boasts an eye for goal and can provide assists. He has 13 goals and 31 assists to his name in 131 matches in Ligue 1. In the 2023-24 season, he made 43 appearances for OM, scoring five goals and providing 12 assists (in all competitions). “The fact that a France international has chosen to join us proves that we are ambitious and that we have solid arguments to convince players to come here,” concluded chairman Jean-Pierre Rivère. “Everyone is aware of his qualities as a player, and we were also convinced by his human qualities. We welcome him to Nice.

Born in Strasbourg and a product of the RCSA youth academy, Jonathan Clauss was a late bloomer in terms of his professional career. After leaving the Racing academy, he played in the lower divisions in France and Germany, before signing his first professional contract at the age of 24, with QRM, in 2017. After a season in Normandy, he returned to Germany to play for Arminia Bielefeld in Bundesliga 2, where he played a key role in the club's promotion to the top flight in 2020.
Clauss then signed a two-year contract with RC Lens, before joining OM in the summer of 2022.
Now, in the summer of 2024, he is officially an Aiglon.
