Ndombele, Le Gym’s first new signing
OGC Nice is delighted to announce the signing of Tanguy Ndombele. Following the expiration of the contract that tied him to Tottenham, the 27-year-old midfielder has signed with Nice until 2026, after spending last season on loan at Galatasaray.
"Over the course of our meetings, I encountered a charming and motivated young man, " explained Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivère. "We wish him the warmest welcome. The planets aligned for this transfer. He is a very talented player and I’m sure we are the perfect club to help him perform at his very best!"
The France international midfielder (7 caps), joins Franck Haise’s squad immediately for the first week of pre-season training: "I am very happy that everything was sorted very quickly," revealed Ndombele. "It’s important to do the preseason with the whole squad. As soon as they showed me the project here at Nice, I didn’t hesitate a second. I am happy and proud to have signed for Le Gym. This squad has big ambitions and I have my own goals to achieve. The team finished 5th last season and will play in the UEFA Europa League this term. I can’t wait to get to work and build something great together. "
Born in Longjumeau on 28 December 1996, Ndombele made his professional debut for Amiens in the 2016-17 season. His talent, technique and ability to make the difference in midfield quickly caught the eye of a number of top-flight teams. He signed for Lyon in the summer of 2017, recruited by a certain Florian Maurice, the current Director of Sport at OGC Nice: "Tanguy is a special player," said Maurice. "It's up to us to give him the ideal framework to fully show his qualities. He knows what it's like to play at the highest level. He fits perfectly with the profile we're targeting and he's in the prime of his career. He worked hard before joining us and is very determined. Our objective is to perform well in all competitions. To do that, we need players of his calibre."
After shining at Lyon between 2017 and 2019 (96 games, 4 goals), when he first became a France international, the box to box midfielder was transferred to Tottenham. He enjoyed two quality seasons there (91 games, 10 goals between 2019 and January 2022). Less used during the 2021-22 season, he returned to Lyon for a 6 months loan during the winter mercato.
The following season, he was loaned to Napoli, with whom he won the Scudetto and made 40 appearances (2 goals). He then moved to Turkey, also on loan, in 2023-24. At Galatasaray, he played 26 games and played his part in the Istanbul club's league-winning season.
Ndombele is now back in Ligue 1 wearing the Rouge et Noir and the whole club welcomes him back!
