Welcome, Mohamed-Ali Cho!

Mohamed-Ali Cho is officially an Aiglon! The 19-year-old French striker joins on a permanent transfer from Real Sociedad.

Cho’s start to life in Ligue 1 certainly made an impression. The precocious young talent was given his top-flight debut aged 16 and would then go on to truly step into the limelight over the course of the following season, still as an Angers player, scoring four goals in 32 appearances. After taking the plunge in the summer of 2022 with a move abroad, to Real Sociedad, as well as coming face to face with top-level football, Cho has now returned to the French top flight by joining Nice in what is a new challenge for the France U21 international, whose ambitions already match those of his new club.

“I made a step up by playing in La Liga and European football, but even though everything has happened really quickly, my career is only just getting started,” reiterated Nice’s newest signing. “I want to show off my qualities, to keep improving and to establish myself, and I’m convinced that joining OGC Nice will allow me to do that.”

Born in Seine-Saint-Denis, Cho spent his youth between France and England, enjoying spells at Paris Saint-Germain’s and Everton’s academies, before turning professional at Angers in May 2020.

“He was our priority for this winter transfer window,” said Florent Ghisolfi, OGC Nice’s sporting director. “His versatility in the three attacking positions will be an asset. He has considerable potential and a freshness that is likely to be a bonus for the team, as well as all of the qualities required of him as a person to settle into the club in the best way possible,” Ghisolfi added.

“Signing him this winter was an opportunity that we didn’t want to miss, and our owner gave us the chance to make it a reality,” continued OGC Nice chairman Jean-Pierre Rivère.

“Here at Nice, we’ve always liked players who bring something different, a spark, onto the pitch. Mohamed-Ali falls into that category,” Rivère continued. “He’s incredibly precocious. He isn’t even 20 years old yet [N.B. Cho will turn 20 on 19th January], but we’ve already had the chance to assess his excellent mindset. We know that at Nice, he’ll find the means of expression that he’s looking for in order to confirm the promise of his first few seasons as a professional and to make our team even better.”
