Le Gym has been eliminated from the UEFA Conference League after a 2-1 extra-time loss to FC Basel (3-4 on aggregate) in the return leg of their quarter-final tie.

Everything was in place for an historic evening. However, it slowly turned into a nightmare for Le Gym, in a cruel scenario that Europe has produced so often down the years. Didier Digard's side had totally dominated the opening 75 minutes, leading from the front thanks to a goal from Laborde, who showed enormous strength and determination throughout (1-0, 9'). The goal came courtesy of Moffi's excellent pressing at the top of the Basel penalty box and a quick exchange between Thuram and Ramsey, before the former Arsenal man provided the assist for the Aiglons' No.24.

Set out in a 3-5-2 formation, with Mendy and Bard on the wings - the only changes from the XI that started in Switzerland last week -, OGC Nice displayed all their quality and control for a major part of the proceedings. Unfortunately, they didn't manage to kill the game off. In the first half, Laborde shot narrowly wide (23'), before Ramsey's long-range effort was saved by the Swiss 'keeper. In the second period Nice should have been awarded a penalty after Pelmard's tackle on Moffi (58'). But the Swiss side had the merit of staying in the contest. They pushed forward in the last quarter of the game, before equalising in the 86th minute. Augustin took advantage of a free-kick that was only half-cleared by the Nice defence and he firmly struck the ball home, between Boudaoui's legs (1-1). Basel then hit the woodwork through Amdouni (90').

In the first half of extra-time, Adams perfectly headed in a cross from Males to ultimately give his side victory (1-2, 98'), despite a number of chances for the home side. Pepe was released through on goal, but was unable to get the better Hirtz (94').

Ramsey's header missed the target from a wonderful Brahimi cross (104') before Brahimi himself, who had been excellent off the bench, hit the crossbar with a free-kick (108'). Lady Luck had clearly chosen her camp...
