Nice - Bâle
Dante: “We're still staying very positive"
When asked in the interview area about the 2-2 draw at the Parc Saint-Jacques, Dante looked back on the second half, which saw his men concede an equaliser twenty minutes from time: "It's always the same. When you control so much like we did at the beginning of the second half, you have the impression that the match becomes easy. But European Cup matches are never easy. In the end, we get punished and it's a real shame."
The Nice captain remains positive, however, a week before the return match on 20 April at the Allianz Riviera (21:00): "We wanted to do better, but we have to remain humble because the European Cup is difficult against any team. We have to tell ourselves that we were in the game, that we did a lot of good things, although there are others to correct. The most important thing is to do next Thursday at home, we still staying very positive."
"We'll have to attack the second leg with confidence and go for the win" added the Brazilian defender. "If we want to achieve our goals, we have to think like that, we have to have courage, personality, determination. We have to do it together, that's the most important thing. And that will also require our fans’ support."
Dante also spoke about the pre-match context: "We did our utmost to remain 100% focused on the pitch, because we are playing a very important game. We must not forget that we are not only playing for Nice but for France. My responsibility within the team is to keep it as focused as possible on the essentials, that means our daily life and work."
