Press conference
Ursea: “The side needs to find some consistency”
Take a look at Adrian Ursea’s post-match press conference after the win against Nîmes (2-1)
This late win does you a lot of good…
It was a really hard fought win. It was a close game. It could have gone either way tonight. We’re happy we got the three points.
How can you explain that you lost control of the game after such a good start?
Either we start off well and then drop off or it’s the other way round. It’s similar to the games against Marseille, Paris and Monaco. We’re capable of raising our level and then falling off like we did today. We got the 3 points. When we were under pressure like in Nîmes, Lens, in Rennes or against Angers we have won. I would like us to become a competitive side and be able to be more successful in what we do, whether it’s during a game or from one game to another.
Were you over confident after 20 minutes?
No. But I think we didn’t control the game well enough; we struggle when playing a side with a low block. Building play up is a tough exercise that not many team can do well for a whole game. That’s where we’d like to be. We’re not able to do that yet so you get to a point where you lose control and aren’t in place anymore and the opponents can capitalize. And that’s how we lose control of the game and that’s what happened at the end of the first half and the start of the second.
So do you go away from the game feeling frustrated?
No. When we were winning 1-0 we should have capitalized to score a second goal that would have set us clear and forced Nîmes to push forward because there were so few spaces in behind. It’s very hard to move such defensive sides.
Can we now say that you are safe from relegation?
Definitely not. But I didn’t speak about relegation or Europe. You ask me those questions a lot and I always say that the next game is all the counts. We’ll look at the end,
Why did you take Hicham Boudaoui off?
He was injured. We’re waiting for the test results. I hope that it won’t be too bad because he was in a good run of form in the last few games.
You were quite strong worded with your players pre match…
I wasn’t critical. I just warned them. The team reacted well, considering the way we started the game and the good things we showed. Even though we didn’t control the game we fought well. The players gave it their all. My message was mostly about looking for the team to find some consistency in our performances from one game to another. My worry was that the team is too comfortable when in control – and that they played well in Rennes. When we give them too many compliments they became a bit complacent. That’s exactly what I don’t want. Especially when I knew that tonight would be a tough game. I was proved right.
Are you going to change the squad for the Coupe de France against Monaco?
Apart from Rony Lopes we’re getting everyone back. I’m very happy because it enables me to create some competition and have different options. Until now I was a bit stuck when I wanted to make changes I needed to think who was available. Now I hope to have more options and choices that will let me think about different tactics or strategies.
A word about the table?
To be honest I haven’t even looked at it. I’m more about analysing. We’re in the same mindset as the past few weeks: game after game. So the most important is Monaco.
The end to the game was stressful..
The whole game was… I was expecting it. All games against teams fighting for survival are hard. You see the teams fighting for the title struggle against lower placed sides. Honestly I was expecting a very hard game.
Can you enjoy it now?
Not yet. I’m mostly focusing on analysing to fix what we need to. Maybe tomorrow, a little bit but I’ll already be focusing on Monaco.
Did Nîmes deserve more?
Nîmes showed some good quality they defended well together with an organized defence. It’s not surprising we’ve seen their last few games. They’ve not lost in their last four and have three wins. It shows their quality. They are dangerous from corners and they have good forwards. They can cause anyone issues.
