Ursea: "Keep our humility"
Check out Adrian Ursea's reaction following Le Gym's victory over Angers (3-0).
Was that your most complete performance for a while?
In the past, we have been doing some good things, and other things not so well. Today, we put in a really interesting performance. That calls for others. What is very important for me is for us to keep our humility. I didn't get carried away during the bad run, I am not going to get too excited now after a win by quite a decent margin.
It felt like William and Jean-Clair had been playing together for years…
It's a very pleasant surprise. We have seen in the two matches that these two players give confidence to all of the team, be that in defence or attack. They give off something special, some personality. We are very happy with their performance this evening.
And what about Myziane's performance?
He has been training really well for a couple of weeks now. You are going to ask me why I didn't play him before: quite simply because he has had a raft of injuries. Since he has sorted out these niggles, he is putting in incredible training sessions. This afternoon, he deserved to play. Even if Kasper had been here, Myziane would have started, maybe in another position. I am pleased with his performance and more than anything, I am happy for him. Physically, he held strong, which allowed him to put in a good performance.
Hicham Boudaoui?
I often say that the play in the final 30 metres depends on just one thing: the start of a move. Hicham is a part of that, being at the second step moving forward. He is not the only one. Pierre also contributed. Morgan did too when he came on. All the players playing in those positions know what they have to do, the principles are clear. And all the better for the team.
Did the little bit of luck help you to gain in confidence this evening?
Certainly. This first goal helped us as it helped us to grow in confidence. Then we quickly managed to pick up a second goal after some smart link-up play. Confidence is fundamental, we know it, because it helps to free up the players, you can take risks and you don't have to think.
Why did you go for Myziane and not Amine Gouiri up-front?
Quite simply because I don't think that Amine is an out and out striker. He is a lot more comfortable when he can play around a striker. He needs to have the game in front of him and someone that he can link up with. The choice was pretty clear once we received the bad news from Kasper. It was a decision that worked and along with others, it allowed us to win the match.
Can you tell us anymore on the absence of Kasper Dolberg?
It came to light yesterday afternoon. We found out when his temperature started to rise. In the evening, we needed to check in with the doctor. He had a fever of 39.5°. It was serious. The doctor took him to the hospital and it's there that they discovered this appendicitis. We received messages, we had no choice. Kasper underwent surgery and it went well. His time on the sidelines will depend on how he gets on, but I think it will be between 3 and 4 weeks. For that reason, I want to dedicate this win to him and also to Jeff who sent a lovely message to the team before the match. Our thoughts are with them. And with that aside, I would like to send a thought to our fans and our President, because as you know, he picked up Covid and watched us from home.
Do you think that the change of system paid off for your side?
I don't know what to say. I haven't had enough time, I haven't seen the team play in this system with other players. I think that our two centre backs managed to stabilise this defence and the whole team. But if we played with a three at the back, it might have worked just as well.
The arrival of Todibo and Saliba has created some competition?
Of course, there is competition for places and if that is accepted by everyone, it can only be a good thing and help to drive the team forward. It's exactly the same in all teams across the world. Competition provides what you need in order to get the players to improve. That's better for the team, because it's the team that is most important and the way that it evolves, no matter who is on the pitch.
Will you make some changes on Wednesday in the Coupe de France against Nîmes?
The Coupe de France is quite important for us. We won't attack the match thinking that we will give it away because we need to give some players a rest. We will bring in some fresh blood, because we need it. But I will try to play the best team possible in order to win the match. We won't play a Coupe de France match thinking about managing our players.
