J-P Rivère: "Not here by chance"
Jean-Pierre Rivère is a happy man. After a huge performance from Nice in their 3-1 over PSG, the club president savoured a beautiful night during his post-match chat with the media.
President, what is your first reaction?
It was a great match but a match that completes our season. Again, we are not here by chance. We know where we are, we know our level and all the progress that we have to make. It's a great satisfaction for the players and the fans. As well as that our supporters are once again forbidden from travelling (to Marseille next week due to heightened security for the presidential election). It's every match, even though their behaviour is exemplary - it's a bit of a pity.
The season, as it happens, is not over…
Three points and goal difference (the advantage PSG have over Nice) - that's a lot. We'll continue to play our matches but one after the other - that's the reality. We're not focusing on anything - we're just playing football. The guys enjoyed themselves tonight - that's a really nice thing. We'll see where we find ourselves at the end. I have a few regrets about the last few matches, with some small refereeing decisions that went against us. It's a shame because it might have allowed us to be in a different position. But that's how football is - we're not going to go back. It's a great evening.
Do you feel like you have deprived PSG of the title this evening?
I don't know because there are still games to be played. Monaco's supporters will have been happy with our performance. I have very good relations with both clubs. We're not getting carried away. We're third, we're playing good football. We still have a lot of steps to make given our budget but we're going to work bit by bit.
