Conference League
Where does Köln’s 1-0 win over Slovácko leave Le Gym?
Today, Slovácko and Köln faced each other in the delayed fixture on Matchday 5 of the UEFA Europa Conference League, with the German side coming out on top in Moravia with a 1-0 win courtesy of Ondrej Duda’s 82nd-minute penalty, which knocks Slovácko out of the competition.
After Le Gym’s 2-1 win over Partizan on Thursday, here are the full standings in Group D.
Les Aiglons will make the trip to face Die Geißböcke next Thursday to close out their group-stage campaign with their fate in their own hands – and at their own feet. Before that final fixture, here’s an overview of the situation and the different permutations:
-
A win for Le Gym would assure that they finish top of Group D and go through to the last 16 of the Conference League.
-
A draw would leave them in at least second place, as a point at the RheinEnergieStadion would put them ahead of Köln. It could also put them top of the group if Partizan fail to win at home to Slovácko. As a reminder, the team finishing in second place will go through to the knockout round play-offs, which are equivalent to a round of 32 and will include teams finishing third in their Europa League group.
-
In the event that they lose in Germany, Nice will be overtaken by Köln but could still hold onto second place if Partizan lose to Slovácko.
