Le Gym in control of its European destiny
OGC Nice have two group-stage games left with Thursday's home encounter against Paritzan Belgrade and next week's trip to Cologne decisive in Le Gym's European adventure.
With five points from four games, the Red-and-Blacks are second in Group D with just 180 minutes to play. This week's visitors Partizan are currently three points clear of them, so a win at the Allianz Riviera on Thursday would take Lucien Favre's men to the top of the section due to their better head-to-head record following the 1-1 draw in Serbia earlier in the competition.
WITH A WIN ON THURSDAY, A POINT WILL BE ENOUGH IN COLOGNE TO PROGRESS
By winning on Thursday, OGC Nice will go to Cologne on 3 November needing just a point to be assured of runners-up spot in the group and secure a place in the play-off against a team dropping out of the Europa League (see below).
With a pair of wins to wrap up the group stage, Le Gym would clinch top spot and a place in the Round of 16, due to kick off in March.
CRITERIA TO SEPARATE TEAMS LEVEL ON POINTS
- most points in head-to-head games
- superior goal difference in head-to-head games
- most goals scored in head-to-head games
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER QUALIFYING?
As Group D winners: Automatic qualification for the Round of 16, to be played 9 & 16 March, 2023. Draw on 24 February, 2023.
As Group D runners-up: Two-legged play-off against a third-placed team from the Europa League on 16 & 23 February, 2023.
OGC Nice needs our fans to support Lemina, Pepe & Co. in this final home game of the group stage. Under-16 tickets available for €5.
