Aiglon of the match

Kluivert, a hand in everything

The matchwinner against Angers on Sunday, Justin Kluivert earned Crédit Agricole Aiglon of the Match honours with 68% of the vote, coming in well ahead of Khephren Thuram (13 %) and Andy Delort (6 %).

The one-on-one duel he won against Danijel Petkovic just 19 minutes in proved enough for the three points, but Justin Kluivert had already shown he was in form even before that. He looked to have picked up a fourth assist of the season when he sent over a cross for Khephren Thuram to head home only for VAR to rule out the goal for offside. Another was struck off later on when his free-kick was finished off by Andy Delort. "He's been working a lot on free-kicks of late. It's only a question of millimetres that he doesn't finish with a goal and two assists," said coach Christophe Galtier.

"He gives us penetration and technical quality," added the Gym boss. His 62 touches — well above his average of 34 a game this season — show just how much he was involved. He scored with his only touch inside the opposition penalty area, but also sent over eight crosses and made 13 passes in the opposition final third. "I feel better and better, and I keep working hard," said Kluivert after scoring his fifth goal for the Rouge-et-Noir, his third in Ligue 1. Given 7/10 in French sports daily L'Equipe, he was also named in the paper's Team of the Week.

THURAM & DELORT COMPLETE THE PODIUM

Thuram was rewarded for a performance in which he thought he had scored his fourth goal of the season. Active in the final third (12 touches), he was a creative influence, finding Kasper Dolberg in good positions twice (15', 62') and also went for goal himself (42').

Delort was also a principal figure against his favourite top-flight opposition, tallying a game-high four shots. He continued to pressure the opposition defence, who fouled him a number of times to keep him in check (4 fouls suffered, equal with Kluviert and Hicham Boudaoui).
