Match report
Le Gym win again at Clermont (0-1)
Le Gym continue their winning streak! Les Rouge et Noir secured their third consecutive victory against Clermont by the smallest of margins (0-1) and provisionally reclaim top spot in the league, thanks to Hicham Boudaoui's goal.
And the run continues! Against a resilient Clermont team, Les Aiglons emerged victorious (1-0) at the Stade Gabriel-Montpied on Friday night, courtesy of a goal from Hicham Boudaoui (74'). In a move similar to his goal against Metz (Matchday 8, 0-1), the "Prince of Béchar" ensured the victory in a match that Nice could have made a whole lot easier for themselves with more efficiency in their finishing touch.
LES AIGLONS DOMINATE
While they secured the win late in the game, Nice dominated this opening match of the Matchday 10 from early on. Playing in a 4-3-3 formation, with Evann Guessand leading the attack and Pablo Rosario on the right side of defence, they started strongly, pressing high and creating numerous opportunities. Guessand, who scored the match winner in the derby against Marseille last week, was initially denied by Diaw, who made a crucial save to block the striker's shot (7'). Moments later, Gaëtan Laborde, benefiting from a well-placed cross from Jeremie Boga, attempted to score at the far post but was unable to beat the vigilant Senegalese goalkeeper, with the post coming to his rescue (10').
Even JC Todibo, always quick to extinguish any counter-attacks, attempted a long-range shot, but it missed the left post (33'). Morgan Sanson's effort after being played in by Melvin Bard, hit Caufriez in the back (43'). And just before that, Les Aiglons thought they would finally be rewarded when Gaëtan Laborde stepped up to take a penalty after Mr. Pignard penalised Seidu for a foul on Boudaoui in the box. Unfortunately, the attempt by the number 24 sailed over the opponent's goal, despite the goalkeeper diving the wrong way (35').
LE GYM STAY AWAKE
The hosts improved their performance after the half-time break. More aggressive in theyr duels, Pascal Gastien's players, who hadn't managed a shot on goal in the first 45 minutes, had attempts from Nicholson (50') and Cham (55') that were all comfortably saved by Marcin Bulka.
Despite the drop in rhythm, Le Gym didn't falter. Boga, receiving a long cross-field ball from Todibo, broke the lines before finding Romain Perraud, who had come on at halftime. In a positive second half performance, Perraud's assist allowed Boudaoui to score the winning goal (1-0, 74').
FIFTH CONSECUTIVE CLEAN-SHEET
Les Rouge et Noir missed out on a second goal by the tiniest of margins. First, Moffi's header from a corner was cleared off the line by Gastien (77'), and then Boga and Baldé both had their attempts thwarted by the Auvergne goalkeeper. When it was time to defend, Todibo and his teammates once again delivered, securing their fifth consecutive clean sheet and their seventh pf the season, even after Keita's attempt deflected off the post (90').
Maintaining their status as the best defence in Ligue 1, Le Gym, guided by exemplary spirit and determination, secured their third consecutive victory and remain undefeated this season. As provisional league leaders with 22 points, pending Monaco's match against Lille this Sunday, Les Aiglons will host Rennes next week (Sunday 5 November at 8.45 PM).
