Delort gets the Gym back on track (2-1)
OGC Nice won 2-1 against Lorient at the Allianz Riviera on Sunday thanks to a brace from Andy Delort, who grabbed the winner in the 88th minute. The Aiglons are now 4th in L1 before the end of matchday 32.
What a feeling! Andy Delort set the Allianz Riviera on fire at the very end of the match, allowing Nice to win the match against the resilient Lorient. The man from Sète headed past Dreyer from a Dolberg cross. It was he who, through his desire and talent, put the Gym back on track having been without a win in L1 since the game against Paris. In the first 15 minutes, Christophe Galtier's team played high up the pitch but faced a well-organised and defensively sound Lorient side. The first chance of the match was for Nice with an unmarked header for Andy Delort from a Lotomba cross. The Lorient team relied on counter-attacks but the Todibo-Daniliuc centre-back partnership proved to be solid.
LE GYM CAN'T FIND THE BREAKTHROUGH...
Gym tried to find a solution on the flanks by attempting many crosses. The Allianz Riviera came alive shortly after the half-hour mark when Justin Kluivert's cross was deflected by Dreyer for a corner. Lorient had their first shot on target when Le Goff fired towards goal from the edge of the area but Benitez wasn’t troubled. Before half-time, Nice had two clear chances. The first one was a header from Kluivert after a cross from Delort and the second one was a powerful shot from the French-Algerian after a nutmeg and cross from Gouiri. The Rouge et Noir dominated the proceedings but could not find the breakthrough against the courageous Merlus and returned to the dressing room goalless.
... UNTIL DELORT'S BRACE
From the start of the second half, the team from the Côte d'Azur went on the attack again, as Kluivert's powerful right-footed shot went over the bar. Khephren Thuram was the man who helped his team break the deadlock. The 21-year-old midfielder raced into the opposition's box, tried to get past Jenz before being fouled. Andy Delort converted the penalty with a powerful right-footed shot to score his eleventh goal for Nice (1-0, 54'). But six minutes later, Lorient were back in the game. Laurienté was sent through by Le Goff on the left, got past Stengs and equalised with a powerful effort (1-1, 60').
The home side's goalscorer, Delort, then fired a long-range shot over the top. Despite both coaches making changes, the pace of the game was slowing down and Nice had a scare with Kone's shot going just wide of Benitez's goal. After a superb lay-off from Delort's chest, Dolberg's shot went well over the bar. The Gym's efforts were to be rewarded late on. Delort headed in a perfect cross from the substitute Dolberg to give Nice the win (2-1, 88').
