Ursea: ‘We didn’t give ourselves enough time to attack’
Take a look at manager Adrian Ursea’s post-match analysis after the draw away to Lorient (1-1).
How would you analyse this Sunday’s game?
It was very tough. I’m not even sure how we got the draw to be honest. Considering how the game went Lorient deserved more. But that’s football. In the past we had games where we deserved more than our opponents. We wanted to get three points because we had done the hardest part despite our performance. What bothers me is the goal we concede because it wasn’t a passage where we were out of position. But I’m keeping the positives: our run continues, we didn’t lose, it’s our third game. This point will be a good one if we win the next game against Marseille.
Why did you only make one change?
Because I thought that the players on the pitch were doing well and working together. They were working hard. I didn’t want to ruin the balance.
Why did you not start Daniliuc?
He was injured before the game. He didn’t train all week and had injections two days ago. He just needed time. We could have used him if we really needed him.
Do you think that the end of the season is going to be tough?
It’s tough to say. I can’t really predict. Do we need to hope for better? Or expect less? I couldn’t tell you. What’s for sure is that the best way to do it is to take it a game at a time. We’ll look at the points later. There’s no point looking further. We’ve got a very important game against Marseille ahead. We need to recover well and prepare for the game if we want this draw to be worth it.
The Lorient pressing made you struggle…
It was more their five at the back, they kept their width really well. We had five forwards when attacking. When we build up the forwards tend to be back to goal which is dangerous because they can counter. We need give ourselves enough time to attack and build up and create space. We talked about it. I think that more patience will give us the possibility to attack better.
There was also a lack of technical ease…
I would say that it was a lack of confidence then led to the mistakes. We can’t just say: “We’re technical tonight but not tomorrow”. We either have it or we don’t. A lot of players have that ability but when confidence is down we try to go backward rather than forward. But I’m not really sure why there is that lack of confidence…
What did you think of Dolberg’s performance?
He was good especially in the second half. We’re slowly seeing the best Kasper. Next week we’ll hopefully have Rony Lopes and Youcef Atal back. Despite all of that it shouldn’t be an excuse. The players that are there need to take advantage of the fact that some starters are missing. That hasn’t always been the case though.
How would you explain that?
It’s a bit of everything. Our teamplay wasn’t at its best. I was speaking of continuity. It’s true that when you make a lot of changes it’s not easy to find each other. You need to spend time with the same players game after game. That’s the only way it works.
