Crédit Agricole Aiglon of the match
Reine-Adélaïde does it all
It was close-run thing between two men for the Crédit Agricole PCA Aiglon of the Match award after Wednesday's 2-0 win at Nîmes. With a hand in both Nice goals, Jeff Reine-Adélaïde came home in front of opening goalscorer Dan Ndoye, but only just: 45.3% to 42.9. It's the first time the midfielder has won the award.
At the Stade des Costières, Jeff Reine-Adélaïde showed his worth to his team. He set the tone with a powerful shot (1'). He then sorely tested Baptiste Reynet, seeing his shot squeeze under the goalkeeper only for the danger to be cleared (25'). With three passes leading to a shot (only Rony Lopes did better with 5) and suffering two fouls (Rony Lopes had a game-high 3), his stats tell the story of just what a threat he was throughout.
Following Morgan Schneiderlin's red card, Reine-Adélaïde redboubled his efforts in midfield when Le Gym were finding it a struggle to capitalise on their domination.
More enterprising than their opponents, the Aiglons' number 29 gave his side belief, and they were rewarded at the end of the game thanks to JRA's contribution.
In the 84th-minute, he sent the ball over that eventually landed at the feet of Ndoye to fire home the first goal. Then, he teed up Alexis Claude-Maurice to wrap up the win. "We know he's able to open up defences," explained boss Adrian Ursea.
There were only a handful of votes between JRA and Ndoye. Having started the game on the bench, the Swiss forward came on after 68 minutes. He'd scored twice in the Europa League (against Sparta Prague and Leverkusen), but this time opened his Ligue 1 account.
In the Gard region, the number 14 became the third player born after 1 January 2000 to score for the club in the top flight.
On the final step of the podium, there was another battle, between Jordan Lotomba and Khephren Thuram. With 7.6% of the votes, the Swiss full-back just pipped his teammate.
Making his 13th start in L1, Jordan kept his flank tight defensively and contributed going forward too.
Passeur pour Reine-Adélaïde sur le premier but, il a aussi trouvé son coéquipier sur le second après avoir brillamment éliminé son vis-à-vis et attiré les défenseurs, créant un espace donc profita pleinement Claude-Maurice.
