A.Ursea: “You always learn from defeats”
Adrian Ursea spoke to the media in the post-match press conference after the Gym’s loss against Hapoël Beer-Sheva (1-0).
Adrian, how would you break this game down having fielded a much-changed team?
I’m satisfied with the team’s performance because of the way we prepared for the game. It wasn’t easy because we weren’t able to train much, we had a session yesterday. And because of that I’m happy with how we played today.
Which youngsters impressed you most tonight?
All of them. The whole team and especially the youngsters, the ones who started and the ones who came on. I take my hat off to them for the way they played and their mentality on the pitch tonight.
Is the way you set up tonight, with four at the back, closer to what you want to do than the game against Reims, where you played a 3-4-3 formation?
We can play in different systems and formations. Today we decided on this one because with the quality of players we had available I felt this was the best way to set up. In future we might change formation again.
How are you preparing for the Rennes game, a vital game for the rest of the season?
I can’t afford to say that any game is more important than another one. All the games are important, the next one included. And tonight was also important because we’re professionals and competitive. When you step on to the pitch you always want to do everything you can to get the best result. That’ll be the case on Sunday and the next game after that, I’m not in any particular state of mind. We’ll prepare like every other game.
Nice and Rennes have both been eliminated from European competitions in the group stage. Do you feel like you could have done better?
Of course I do. When you’re knocked out in the group stage it means that things went wrong. But you always learn from defeats. It is valuable experience that the clubs will be able to look back on in the future. At Nice we’re trying to build something. We don’t want to live moments like these but we have to stay calm and look back at it to know what to work on going forward.
Big players like Rony Lopes seem to be struggling. What’s your opinion on the situation?
Rony struggled a bit tonight because of how our opponents played today. There was so little space and it was tough. He played 45 minutes and personally I’d like to watch the game again before commenting. But right now, I’d say that I’m happy with Rony’s performance.
