Strasbourg 2-2 Nice

Haise: "This point has to count"

Franck Haise reacts to Le Gym's 2-2 draw at Strasbourg, when he was interviewed in the press conference after the game.

Coach, was it a draw that tasted like victory for your team?

It's a draw that feels like a draw. Given the circumstances of the match, it's a point that I hope will count for something. It has to count, because when we play like that and equalise like that, it should help us to prepare well for our last five games.

Did you see the game you were expecting from your men after this week's preparation?

Yes, apart from a few technical errors that cost us two goals in a few minutes, I saw a very good game from my team, even though Strasbourg pushed very quickly, very early on. I think we played a really good game against a confident team.

What was going through your head when Youssouf Ndayishimiye scored the equaliser?

On the bench, I said we'd equalise. I think it was because we deserved it and I believed. I knew it was the very last minute. I was just happy for what the lads did, for what we produced and for the quality of the game. At the very least, it was a well-deserved draw.

It's good for Youssouf, who doesn't score very often...

He's already scored a few. He also scored a header from a corner at Angers at the start of the season. It's also good for Moïse (Bombito), who will suffer less.

What did you say to Moïse Bombito when he came off?

I told him he's going to have to be strong. That's football, learning, the life of a footballer. In our profession, sometimes you make mistakes that you pay for, sometimes you have great moments, other times it's more difficult. It's up to him to be strong, not to give up and to keep moving forward. I also know that for the first goal, we can't come out and leave him alone around Emegha. Mistakes aren't just made by individuals.

What did you say to your players at the end of the match?

The players and members of staff spoke too. We said to ourselves that this point has to count, that it was well deserved because they played a very good game.

Can this almost unexpected point restore your team's momentum?

It's unexpected because it came late, but when you look back at the game, we're all disappointed not to have won. The players felt they were better than Strasbourg tonight (Saturday). I think they were right. The point came very late, to say the least, but it's fair in terms of the game as a whole. We haven't been rewarded much recently, although we haven't played matches of this quality either. In the last three home games, we should have got much more than we did. But tonight, we put in other elements as well as quality. We need to keep that up. There are only five games left, five weeks. I hope it will be important for them and for their confidence.

As well as his goal, we saw a very solid Youssouf Ndayishimiye tonight. How would you rate his form at the moment?

He's been in good form for a while now. He's not had any niggles or injuries. He's very good in the system, in our game, defensively... We put Moïse (Bombito) in the middle tonight because of Emegha's speed. But Youssouf is an important player in the squad. He's in very good form.
