Nice - Lyon

Guessand, a young centurion

At Geoffroy-Guichard, Evann Guessand made his 100th competitive appearance for OGC Nice at professional level. A club youth academy product, he will be given special recognition ahead of the kick off of Sunday’s game with Lyon (8:45pm CET).

He’s both the top goalscorer and goalmaker in Franck Haise’s squad this season (11 goals, 7 assists). Evann Guessand’s excellent campaign so far will be put in the limelight on Sunday ahead of a fixture that means a lot to his personal story. Do you remember 24 October 2021? Trailing 2-0 with 10 minutes to go, Le Gym flipped the scoreline round and Evann, who was not an Ivorian international at the time, scored the third goal before celebrating – shirt off – in front of the red-and-black fans.

That goal is the moment when his long story turned, a story that OGCNICE.tv covered last summer.

It’s a story that started when the forward arrived in Nice a decade ago, and will now run through to 2028 at least.

At not even 24 years old (he turns 24 on 1 July), Guessand has reached the 100-game milestone with the Gym’s senior team. He joins the others in the squad: Dante (303 matches), Boudaoui (165), Rosario (139), Bard (139) and Laborde (108).

In 100 matches wearing the world’s most beautiful shirt, the number 29 – who spent his first seasons at the top level on loan at Lausanne and Nantes -  has scored 19 goals.
