Aiglons win at Torcy and advance to the quarter finals

Travelling to Torcy on Sunday in the Coupe Gambardella Round of 16, the young Aiglons held their nerve to win 3-0 and advance to the next round. Zinedine Hasni, Everton and Yanis Sofikitis were the scorers for Nice.

The Gambard' adventure continues. One month on from their spectacular comeback and qualification on penalties at Saint-Priest (3-3 + 1-4 pens), OGC Nice once again got the job done away from home on Sunday 2nd March. Julien Sablé's beat Régional 2 outfit US Torcy PVM 0-3, controlling the proceedings against the side from the Ile-de-France region whose ability to pull off an upset had already been demonstrated by their victory over Reims in the Round of 64.

Zinedine Hasni opened the scoring just before the quarter-hour mark (0-1, 14'), and Le Gym went into the break with the lead. Better still, the Rouge et Noir were quick to extend their lead at the start of the second half, winning an early penalty. Everton, who had already scored in the penalty shoot-out against St-Priest, withstood the pressure of the home crowd to double the lead after wrong-footing the goalkeeper (0-2, 48').

In control, Yanis Sofikitis pulled his side further clear towards the end of the match, the Nice captain scoring his first goal of the competition at the end of normal time (0-3, 90').

With wins over Ajaccio (1-0), Nîmes (1-2), Saint-Priest and Torcy, the young Aiglons now face a date in the quarter-finals of the Coupe Gambardella on Sunday 30th March (draw on Thursday).
