The thoughts of Jean-Pierre Rivère and Florian Maurice
During the press conference to present Jonathan Clauss, Jean-Pierre Rivère (President) and Florian Maurice (Sporting Director) discussed the club's summer transfer window.
JONATHAN CLAUSS AFTER TANGUY NDOMBELE
"Bringing in two French internationals as our first two signings is a source of satisfaction. It shows that the club is attractive. You will judge them for yourselves on the pitch," explains Florian Maurice, highlighting the spirit of Les Aiglons' new full-back: "Everything was made easier by his desire and determination to join OGC Nice, in relation to the coach, the project, the staff... The club must be ambitious and show that we are a team that wants to do things well." President Rivère shares this sentiment: "Everyone knows the quality of the player, there is no debate. Lots of people know him here, which makes integration easier. When you meet Jonathan, you want to work with him. It came about quite easily, we discussed it with Marseille and tried to close the deal quickly. It was important to do so to meet the coach's needs, and the work Florian is doing is remarkable. Human relations are very important, we are very attentive to the human qualities of the players, but that is just one element among many."
WHY IS THE TRANSFER MARKET SO SLOW?
The question was posed to Florian Maurice. He provided a clear answer: "There are strong economic constraints, not only in France. Even in England or Saudi Arabia, it is quieter. It is likely to accelerate as every transfer window does, ending late, even too late. We know that at the end of August, every club will be active, worried, and everyone will panic, with adjustments to be made. On our side, we are on the lookout for various opportunities in all areas, but especially defensively. There are existing leads, it takes time, it is slow, it requires discussions…"
DISCUSSIONS ABOUT JC TODIBO
The Sporting Director also commented on the management of JC Todibo, who has an exit clause this summer, like Khephren Thuram before him: "No significant progress today (Wednesday). He needs to continue preparing, we know he is under contract. When I arrived, I was told he had an exit clause, and today he is still in training. Football is peculiar; anything is possible. He is still under contract, I know his intentions, we are trying to work on different opportunities to strengthen in that position. There is still one month left, and a lot can happen. There is no deadline, we are trying to find the best solutions so that all three parties are satisfied. We are working tirelessly to find the best possible solution."
"We are calm because the core of the team is there," concluded Florian Maurice. "We need to adjust certain positions but there are not many changes to be made. Clubs would like to have their squads complete at the beginning of the season but it is very tough. We are on schedule, the idea is to have the recruits as quickly as possible to work with them quickly and adapt quickly."
