A good start for the Aiglons against Lausanne (2-2)

The Aiglons played their first pre-season match against Lausanne on Wednesday. The match ended 2-2.

In their first pre-season match in the summer of 2024, OGC Nice drew with Lausanne (2-2). With two differing halves, the overall result was "rather encouraging", according to Franck Haise.

FEATURES

As is often the case in the summer, there were several 'games' within the same match. Franck Haise used 22 Aiglons (see below), each of whom had 45 minutes to sink their teeth into the match.

Back on the pitch on 3rd July, Les Niçois took on the occasion with more bite than the Swiss side, who resume their league campaign against Basel on 21st July.

High pressing, possession, quick runs, unselfish: these were the first principles displayed by the 2024-25 Aiglons . On the whole, the Aiglons controlled the first half. Left-footed Billal Brahimi had the first chance, but failed to find the net.

Backed by the reassuring presence of Dupé, Les Aiglons opened the scoring with a quick-fire attack. With LS in a strong position to take advantage of a free-kick on the edge of the area, the men from Le Comté picked up the ball in their own box before launching a supersonic attack. Boga, with a classy back-heel for Brahimi inside Nice's defensive third. "Billou" gave a burst of acceleration, poked inside and set Cho off at light speed. The rocket sprinted 50 metres and beat the keeper to score the first goal of the Rouge et Noir summer (1-0-23').

There were no more clear-cut chances in a first half that was generally under Gym's control.

The second half was more open, with chances on both sides, including a lovely (but off-target) scissor-kick from Laborde on the stroke of half-time. Bouanani, back from a loan spell at Lorient, soon made his mark with a marvellous through-ball to Guessand.

The new Côte d'Ivoire international moved into space, controlled the ball and showed great composure in front of goal (2-0, 65').

LS reduced the deficit in the wake of Nice's second goal, through Diabaté (1-2, 68'). They then came under increasing pressure and finally equalised when Szalai volleyed home a cross from the right (2-2, 87'). Despite a good chance for the Swiss outfit late on, the score remained level.

The work continues for Franck Haise's squad, who host Leganés on 19th July in their 2nd pre-season match.
