Francesco Farioli leaves OGC Nice
After one season at the club, Francesco Farioli (35) has left OGC Nice to join Ajax Amsterdam.
"The situation was very clear to us from the outset: as long as OGC Nice's interests were protected, we would not close the door on Francesco leaving. The discussions went very quickly, and we found a solution that satisfied all parties. I'd like to thank Francesco for the progress we've made together. He is a great professional and a person with great value". Following on from his speech in the mixed zone at the Stade Pierre Mauroy, Jean-Pierre Rivère confirmed on Thursday the departure of the Tuscan coach, who arrived at Nice last summer after initial experiences as head coach at Karagumruk and Alanyaspor.
"We gave him one objective: get the club back into Europe", Fabrice Bocquet continued, the Director General of le Gym. "The goal was achieved because we'll be playing the Europa League next season after finishing in fine 5th place. This means we can pursue our project with ambition. It's been a great adventure, but now we're parting ways. We wish him all the best for the new challenge he is about to take on at Ajax and for the rest of his career."
"It's been an immense honour to defend these colours," Francesco Farioli concluded. "OGC Nice is the first club in Europe's top 5 leagues to have given me my chance. We've put in a lot of effort and we've suffered together. This season, there have been a lot of ups and downs, but we've overcome them with unity and by sticking together. We fought together right up to the last minute of the last match and we were rewarded by achieving our goal.
I'd like to thank the management, the staff, the players and, of course, the fans. I'll never forget you, Issa Nissa!"
Felipe Sanchez Mateos (assistant coach), Daniele Cavalletto (assistant coach) and Osman Kul (video analyst), who also joined the club last summer, are also leaving OGC Nice, who would like to thank all three for their work.
