Dante stays for another year!
OGC Nice is proud to announce that its captain, Dante, has signed a one-year contract extension.
In the world’s most beautiful city, the question of whether Dante will extend his contract or not comes up every year; in other words, it never comes up at all. The extraordinary and timeless player has already made his mark on the history of OGC Nice, a club for which he has featured 282 times and scored eight goals since joining in 2016. His story here isn’t over just yet, though, as Les Rouge et Noir’s captain will now lead his troops into the 2024–25 season, both in France and in Europe.
Beyond the sentiments that bring the club and the centre-back together, this shared decision is rooted in an indisputable fact: on the pitch, the former Bayern Munich man has been in sparkling form. As a pillar of the best defence in Ligue 1 with just 29 goals conceded, Dante was the most-used player in the campaign just gone, clocking in at 3,101 minutes of game time. At the basis of every attacking move, he was also the one who simplified Nice’s end to the league season by rescuing his side away to Strasbourg with a header that was as important as it was symbolic and that made him, at 40 years and 193 days old, the fourth player aged 40 or over to score in Ligue 1 since 1947–48 – a stat that, luckily for us, he’ll get to push that little bit further next season.
Thanks for everything, capitão... 😉
