“We’re hoping to bring in two or three more players”

Since the start of the transfer window, Le Gym have registered the arrival of two new reinforcements: Morgan Sanson and Jérémie Boga. Les Rouge et Noir don’t intend to stop there either, as club president Jean-Pierre Rivère and sporting director Florent Ghisolfi explained today.

PRIORITY: the LEFT-BACK POSITION

When asked about the positions being targeted between now and the end of the summer transfer window, Ghisolfi responded: “Mainly, and I don’t think this is a secret to anyone, the left-back position. We’ve only got Melvin Bard and Ayoub Amraoui, who is a young player, there, so it’s a priority position at the moment. Once again, we won’t be rushed into anything. We’ve got precise criteria. Other than that, we’ll have a look at three other positions. We’re also keeping an eye on what’s happening during pre-season because there are some interesting things coming from players who have returned from loan spells or injuries. At centre-back, we’ll also see what happens because Youssouf [Ndayishimiye] can play in midfield, too.

“We’re already satisfied with the two that have joined us, as they tick a lot of boxes. Obviously, we’re not done yet. We’re hoping to bring in two or three more players but without rushing into anything. That was the case with Morgan and Jérémie. We need to be patient; we don’t want to do anything just for the sake of it. Every player who joins us has to add something to the team. For the last eight months, we’ve been putting together a puzzle that’s now starting to take shape, but, yes, there’s still work to do,” continued Le Gym’s sporting director.

“This is how we foresaw our transfer window going”

Florent Ghisolfi

As Ghisolfi went on to explain, it’s about working hard but not rushing into things: “This is how we foresaw our transfer window going. We told ourselves, ‘Jérémie is our priority, so we’ll spend a significant part of our budget on him, and alongside that, we’ll work on doing loan deals.’”

“Loan deals often come with an option to buy, which is quite good because it means that you can judge a player over a whole season and make decisions even more easily,” emphasised president Rivère before handing the floor back to Ghisolfi: “That’s what we said to Morgan. Even if we do so through an option to buy, what we want is to have a long-term outlook. He also wanted to have a long-term outlook at OGC Nice, which made things simpler.”

thURAM and todibo’s future

“I’m not going to give you some stock phrase,” concluded Le Gym’s sporting director. “Yes, they’re in demand; all the better. They’re two internationals, which is an honour for Nice and for OGC Nice. We want to keep everyone, but in terms of our way of working, we’re never attached to one player. If a transfer is a win-win for all parties, it could happen, but right now, we want to keep them. We’ve got two players, as well as their entourages, who are doing very well at Nice and who are highly respectful of the club, which is becoming stronger and more respected by other clubs. If we can keep them, we’ll keep them.”
