Morgan Sanson joins Les Aiglons
OGC Nice is proud to announce the signing of Morgan Sanson, with the midfielder joining on loan from Aston Villa with an option to buy.
The experienced and talented Sanson, 28, becomes Les Rouge et Noir’s first signing of the summer, bolstering Francesco Farioli’s squad. Having made the journey over from the United States, where he was midway through a training camp with Aston Villa, the versatile midfielder today passed the mandatory medical examination before signing a deal with Les Aiglons. “Morgan is a mature player who knows Ligue 1 inside out. He joins us on loan with an option to buy, but we’d like him to be a long-term addition. He’s an ambitious lad who will bring his experience and his talent to the team,” explained Florent Ghisolfi, Le Gym’s sporting director. “Morgan’s physical attributes mean that he’s a very busy player, and he’ll be able to contribute all of his technical quality and vision to the team.”
Having previously played for Le Mans, Montpellier, Marseille and Aston Villa, Sanson, who has 36 goals and 238 games under his belt in Ligue 1, plied his trade on loan at Strasbourg for the first six months of 2023. “It’s an honour to join OGC Nice,” enthused the player as he took his first few steps in the historical capital city of the County of Nice. “I know the club and the players well, having often faced them before. I know about Nice and the atmosphere at the Allianz Riviera, and I’m looking forward to experiencing it all with Les Rouge et Noir. I’m feeling good, fresh. I know that the club is ambitious, and I am, too. I can’t wait to get to work, and I hope that we’ll achieve great things together.”
“We’d like to wish Morgan and his family welcome,” concluded club president Jean-Pierre Rivère. “He’s got a good head on his shoulders, and he’s hard-working, humble and, at the same time, hugely competitive. Beyond his qualities as a footballer, which we know very well, we were drawn to his mindset and his personality, which suit OGC Nice perfectly.”
