Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat celebrates Le Gym
On Tuesday, just as the school holidays were getting into full swing, Le Gym became the toast of the town of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.
It was party time on Cap Ferrat. In front of the restaurant Le Saint Jean on Place Georges Clémenceau, fans of all generations were treated to a variety of activities before Les Aiglons rocked up for one big autograph session. “This is the first one of the year. When we can make our fans happy and meet up with them, it’s always nice,” assessed Gaëtan Laborde as he took to the stand.
For the occasion, the Aiglons striker was joined by other key figures from Francesco Farioli’s squad: Dante, Jean-Clair Todibo, Youcef Atal, Hicham Boudaoui and Terem Moffi. For an hour in the heat of the Alpes-Maritimes summer, they all made themselves available for a series of autographs and photos.
“This is a really great event that connects the club to its territory here in Saint-Jean,” hailed Fabrice Bocquet, Le Gym’s CEO, who was accompanied by a delegation from INEOS. “I’ve seen a lot of happy people here, both among the fans and among the club’s staff, because these moments really do help to convey positive emotions. That’s how you connect a club to its identity. This is an extraordinary setting; we’re in an area that deserves to be put in the limelight more and more and that should be experienced rather than described with words. OGC Nice is a vehicle through which to showcase it, and that’s what we’re going to keep doing.”
Jean-François Dieterich, mayor of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat
“This is an extraordinary event that Le Gym is giving to the town of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, both to its children and to its adults, to boys and girls alike, which proves that everyone is interested in football; everyone identifies with a team. Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is very close to Nice. We here, as kids who played football in a certain era, all identified with Le Gym. They were our favourite team. I started going to the club’s matches in the ‘60s, back in the days of the Stade du Ray, and I’ve never stopped. There’s a great team in Nice with some great prospects. Today, a lot of people have turned up, and I’d like to thank the club and the players who are here, gathered around their captain, Dante, and happily going along with the autograph session.”
