Looking back

Nice - PSG: 5 wins since the return to the top-flight

OGC Nice host PSG on Saturday (9pm) at the Allianz Riviera on Matchday 30 of Ligue 1. Here's a look back at five of Le Gym's home wins in this encounter since their return to the top-flight.

The first of the 21st century

Nice 1-0 PSG (Matchday 23, 2005/2006 season)

It had been 17 years since OGC Nice had beaten PSG at home when the club from the capital came to the Stade du Ray on 21 January 2006. Back in the top flight for three seasons, Les Azuréens had a good season, finishing in 8th place. Under the orders of Frederic Antonetti, Le Gym welcomed an out-of-form Paris, who had not won away from home in two months. Defensively solid and valiant, Les Aiglons sent their fans into delirium in the 88th minute, thanks to a goal by Sammy Traoré from a corner, and did not give anything away to their opponents, who then had to wait five years before winning again in Nice

Five in a row

Nice 1-0 PSG (Matchday 29, 2009/2010 season)

Four years later, Sammy Traore had changed sides but Les Aiglons still came out victorious. With four consecutive home wins over Les Parisiens, OGC Nice hosted Antoine Kombouaré's men in an important match in the race for survival. The match was played behind closed doors and was dominated by the visitors, but they were surprised ten minutes from the end by a header from Loïc Rémy. Le Gym, who already ran out winners in the first match between the two sides at the Parc, made it a fifth consecutive victory against the side from the capital at the Stade du Ray.

Valentin at the far post…

Nice 2-1 PSG (Matchday 15, 2012/2013 season)

Things had changed by 2012. For a year, PSG had been under Qatari ownership, and came to the Stade du Ray on 1 December with a real armada. Thiago Silva in defence, Zlatan Ibrahimovic up-front, Carlo Ancelotti in charge… nobody gave Claude Puel's young Aiglons a chance of winning before the game. However, it was the Niçois who surprised the visitors with a quarter of an hour to go. Dario Cvitanich - who will be the guest of honour at the game this Saturday - mystified Van der Wiel before finding Bauthéac for the opening goal. And even after Ibrahimovic equalised with a powerful direct free-kick, Le Gym found what was needed to retake the lead, thanks to a beautiful volley by Valentin Eysseric. A 2-1 win that spurred the Rouge et Noir to a superb 4th place finish.

The most convincing

Nice 3-1 PSG (Matchday 35, 2016/2017 season)

An exceptional season needs an exceptional victory. With four games to go in a historic season, which would see Les Aiglons finish on the third step of the Ligue 1 podium, OGC Nice hosted Paris Saint-Germain in a lively Allianz Riviera. With a controlled performance, it was a super-charged Nice side that let rip on the Paris goal. Mario Balotelli opened the scoring in the first half, then Ricardo Pereira doubled the lead with a curled effort that buried into the back of Kevin Trapp's net. Despite Marquinhos pulling one back, Lucien Favre's side didn't falter and ended the evening with a goal from Tassos Donis to secure their biggest victory over the club from the capital in the 21st century.

The most recent

Nice 1-0 PSG (Matchday 27, 2021/2022 season)

Andy Delort, 88th minute. A goal that will forever remain in the memories of the Nice supporters, After a close game against the leaders and eventual champions, Les Aiglons launched a counter-attack with two minutes left in the game. Calvin Stengs delivered a beautiful cross to the far post, which was met by Delort who smashed a half-volley under the bar. A 1-0 victory that fired OGC Nice into second place, in a season where they finished in 5th position.

There are only a few PSG & Basel packs left…

Launched at the end of last week following the authorisation to sell the seats initially reserved for Les Parisiens, the packs combining Nice - PSG (Saturday 8 April at 9pm) and Nice - Basel are flying off the shelves: there are just a couple of dozen left at the initial price (66€ for the two encounters). Don't miss out!
