1952 Coupe de France final goalscorer Georges Césari passes away
OGC Nice are devastated to learn of the death of Georges Césari, one of the architects of the club’s league/cup double in 1952.
Just a few weeks after the death of Antoine Bonifaci, another figure of the legendary ‘50s generation has left us. Georges Césari passed away in Grasse last week, having just turned 94 years old.
The mobile and clinical striker played for Les Rouge et Noir for two seasons (1951-52 and 1952-53), making 50 appearances, all of which were as a starter, and scoring 21 goals – 17 in the league and four in the Coupe de France.
He was one of the main architects of the club’s league/cup double in 1952, shining in the 5-3 win over Bordeaux in the final on 4th May 1952 by scoring Les Aiglons’ fifth and final goal of the game (video below).
In his time at Nice, the left-footer also stood out by bagging braces against Olympique Lyonnais and Rouen in the 1951-52 season. During his career aside from at OGC Nice, he also showed his talent at Toulon, Troyes, RC Paris and Valenciennes.
Le Gym sends its deepest condolences to his family and friends. A tribute will be paid to him in the team’s next game at the Allianz Riviera against Rennes on Saturday 2nd April at 17:00 CET.
