Aiglon of the match

Gouiri, the man of the match for the semi-final

With a goal and an assist in a match that sent OGC Nice through to the final of the Coupe de France, Amine Gouiri picked up the large majority of the supporters’ votes. With 80 % of the vote, the number 11 was named Crédit Agricole Aiglon of the Match for the semi-final, beating Calvin Stengs (6%) and Khephren Thuram (5 %) to the award.

Even before the break, he was one of the main thorns in the side of the Versailles defense. Often playing out on the left, in a position that allowed him to link-up with Calvin Stengs, Amine Gouiri dealt the killer blow. After the break, he, like the rest of the Nice squad, returned to the field determined to turn things in their favour and the young Frenchman took it upon himself to threaten the visitors’ goal in order to secure a ticket for the Stade de France in May. He was first blocked by Gustave Akueson (46'), but then his talent set him free. On the end of a cross from Jordan Lotomba, the forward controlled the ball, set himself up and then struck with the outside of his boot, leaving Dan Delaunay absolutely no chance (1-0, 48’).

Having taken the lead, Gouiri continued to show his devastating ability at the business end of the pitch. From goal scorer, he turned provider after a moment of genius. His skill took three Versailles defenders out of the game, and he played into an unmarked Kasper Dolberg who found the back of the net (2-0, 74'). In doing so, he was directly involved in his 20th goal of the season across all competitions (12 goals, 8 assists) and was credited with an 8 from L'Équipe and Nice-Matin, as he sent Le Gym to Stade de France for the first time in 25 years.

STENGS 2ND, THURAM 3RD

Behind the Nice top scorer, Calvin Stengs takes second place (6%). Starting on the left at kick-off, the Dutchman showed desire and had several chances on goal (5', 56', 65') and almost set up another (43').

In third place, Khephren Thuram (5') is rewarded for his several breaks into the Versailles half. With his ability to destabilise the opposition, he opened the game up on several occasions and was a constant threat at corners.
