Christophe Galtier 4th in L'Equipe chart of French football influencers

In Thursday's edition, L'Équipe — France's major sports daily — published a 30-strong chart of those "who will make French football in 2022". After winning last season's Ligue 1 title with Lille before guiding Le Gym to the business end of the French top-flight table by the mid-point of the 2021/22 campaign, coach Galtier is just off the podium.

He's the leading tactician in the chart ahead of France national team boss Didier Deschamps (5th), and only behind the top three comprised of Kylian Mbappé (1st), Karim Benzema (2nd) and Lionel Messi (3rd).

As he prepares to take Les Aiglons — currently second in the table — back into league action at Brest on Sunday (1pm CET), the coach gave a long interview to the paper under the headline 'People's opinions are changing', and underlined that his motivation remains intact despite winning the trophy.

"I'm not a top-level athlete. I'm a coach. And a coach has to put a project in place, impose a certain way of working and be demanding of his team, his staff, and the club environment, so — automatically — he's very demanding of himself," he explained.
