Able to play as a number 10, support striker, or wide left in the front line, the 22-year-old has joined from AS Monaco to give coach Favre yet another attacking option. The Tours-born player is already used to the top level having made 105 competitive appearances for our Côte d'Azur neighbours — 17 of which have been in European competition - scoring 17 goals.

A playmaker blessed with delightful technique, a good dribbler and a deadly exponent of set-pieces, the France U21 international, who came through the Rennes youth academy, spent a season on loan at Sochaux (2019/20) in Ligue 2.

Sofiane Diop's first season in the Red and Black was disrupted by a sprained knee he picked up against Auxerre at the beginning of March, which kept him out of action for two months. A technically gifted player, the Gym's number 10 scored two goals, including a fundamental one in the derby victory over OM (1-3). A real facilitator of the game, the attacking midfielder has distinguished himself more through his passing during the 2022-2023 season, with four assists to his name.
